Abstract:

Aluminum substrate is being used increasingly more throughout the industrial and automotive markets. Companies are developing parts that are designed to be strong yet light weight and accomplish the same duties as steel. In order to keep up with that trend, metal finishing shops are running all aluminum processing systems to produce a product that can withstand corrosive testing and maintain its visual appearance after being painted. There are a few differences including sludge build-up, energy required, and chemical consumption when running zirconium pretreatment on all aluminum lines compared to traditional zinc phosphate chemistry. This presentation will compare traditional zinc phosphate systems to zirconium pretreatment chemistry on an all-aluminum processing system.
