Type: General Session & Keynote

Abstract:

During the Electrocoat 2010 conference, I was privileged to share my views regarding the economy and manufacturing after the Great Recession.  In “Manufacturing After the Crisis:  Where do we go from here?”, I shared data and insights regarding the impact of the Great Recession, the importance of manufacturing and how it was beginning to recover, global trade, fiscal deficits and trends, and concluded with some recommendations for moving forward.  The decade since our 2010 conference has given witness to a resurgence in manufacturing, growth of the economy and global trade, and significant improvements in employment, business health, and the standard of living.  At the same time, many challenges have been reported, particularly in the areas of global trade friction, income inequality, aging workforces and limited workforce availability, concern for climate change, and the ongoing impact of disruptive technologies and business models.
